Ascent

Accidental Discovery; GA Expo 2021 Awards winner

Project description

In Ascent, you play as the last remaining pilgrim on a quest to relight your village’s sacred flame. Travel across the land, visiting 3 unique locations as you climb the holy mountain, encountering a flora and fauna inspired by a multitude of folklore from around the world.

My role as AI and Gameplay Programmer

As the AI and Gameplay programmer of this game, my duty was to design and implement the AI systems (structured as behaviour trees and finite state-machines) for the enemies in the game, as well as other neutral entities such as the animals that inhabit the environment. I've also designed and implemented defensive combat mechanics that the player could use against the main enemy of the game, the Wendigo. Besides AI and Gameplay implementations, I've done additional contributions to the shader system, by implementing a water shader as well as working close with our team's animator to implement animations for each entity in the game. Producing original sounds for the enemies and implementing them was another contribution of mine to the project.
